Greetings Rundle Academy Students, Parents and Community. I’m Karen Goepen-Wee, a teacher here at Rundle Academy, and I am the curator of TEDxRundleAcademy.
A little over a year ago, after attending TEDActive 2014, the simulcast conference of the official TED conference, I came back to Rundle Academy with a crazy idea: wouldn’t it be amazing to have our very own TEDx event that highlighted the ideas and passions of the students here at this school?
TEDx events are independently organized TED-like, multidisciplinary events featuring short talks that seeks to highlight the unique passions, ideas, challenges, hopes, and dreams of a specific place or community.
So, where better to have a TEDx event, than in a school? Especially a school that celebrates and supports diverse learners and their needs.
On Saturday, March 12, 2016, I am pleased to announce that TEDxRundleAcademy’s sophomore event will take place in Rundle Academy’s Fine Arts Centre. This 4 hour event is the culmination of a truly remarkable exercise in collaborative creativity and it is this collaboration that is the hallmark of a TEDx event. My vision, in bringing a TEDx event to Rundle Academy, was to celebrate the ideas worth sharing that come primarily from our student body, but also are reflective of our greater community: parents, alumni members, and educators who truly try to make a difference in the lives of students.
Our program is diverse, eclectic and homegrown. We seek to educate, entertain and provoke conversations that will continue long after our event is over; conversations about diversity and how we can continue to promote it for years to come not only within our own school community, but in the greater Rundle Academy community.
